Hi, I’m Paul Carvalho, a financial advisor and author of this site. Thank you so much for visiting.

Pharmacists First Wealth Services™ was created to improve the financial well-being and peace of mind of pharmacists in Canada. Using a network of experienced professionals in all areas of financial services, we help you achieve your goals by providing honest advice that you can trust.

Why the focus on Pharmacists?

Pharmacists are some of the hardest working people I know.  So it comes as no surprise that many of you use a financial advisor to help you achieve your goals.  However, I believe pharmacists are being poorly served by the current investment industry.

Here’s why.

Many financial advisors in Canada are professional salespeople whose main motivation is generating a commission by selling a product. The vast majority of financial advisers are not obligated to put their client’s interest first; they are only required to sell products that are appropriate for their clients.

You deserve better.  As a professional pharmacist, you deserve the highest standard in professional wealth management.

Also, the pharmacy industry today is going through some unprecedented changes. Changes to the way health care is funded, an increased focus on patient counselling and a rise in the number of pharmacy schools are just some of the issues impacting your profession.

These changes are creating new opportunities, but they are also destroying some old ways of doing things. As a pharmacist, you need to adapt to these new industry realities, and your financial plan needs to adapt as well.

Pharmacists First is unique in two significant ways:

  • We understand pharmacists.  We understand the issues facing pharmacists today. This unique knowledge allows us to provide you with valuable, tailored advice in the areas of investing, taxes, retirement planning, debt management, career change, insurance and estate planning.
  • We act in your best interest.  Our advisors are held to the highest standard in the Canadian investment industry: the “fiduciary standard”. This means we are professionally and ethically required to put your interests above our own. Most financial advisors in Canada adopt a “suitability standard”, which permits the use of high-cost (and high commission) products, as long as the product is “suitable” to your situation.
